Scifi fan I love science fiction not entirely for the technology, but the social aspects...being able to explore our own culture through the perspective of an alien one, discussing things that would be considered taboo in mainstream fiction.
I love Thomas Disch, C.J. Cherryh, Harlan Ellison, Neil Gaiman, William Gibson, Frank Herbert and Orson Scott Card, among others.
My favorite non-scifi writer is Tom Robbins, "Jitterbug Perfume" is my favorite novel of any stripe.
