It says here.. I am told that I could always be found with my head in a book from the time I was a little tyke. I remember being taken to the public library when about age 5, and I proceeded to read everything in the 'childrens' department. In high school math and Latin classes, I devoured science fiction, Nabokov, and other 50's cult writers. In New Zealand I read a lot of Katherine Mansfield, worked in a Penguin bookshop, and took English courses at the university. Forseveral years in Canada I worked in a large library co-operative where my job was to chage the books around every few months in area public libraries. When I started that, I used to ask the librarians how they got to be there. It was always the love of reading. Well, I would ask, what are you reading these days? Oh, I never have time to read any more, they would tell me! Despite my heavy schedule, I always still have a book, sometimes two or three on the go. A couple of months ago I read 'Not Without My Daughter', after seeing it here and there for many years. Now I am reading 'Knockout', by Suzanne Somers, about why standard responses to cancers are not giving medical professionals the results people hope for, and what is working. Recently I read a book about the history of farmers' markets in England. I read a great book last year by an English writer named Neal Stephenson. 'Quicksilver' is one of the most colorful, complex, characterful books I have ever read. I got it from the public library, and they didn't want it back! Go figger! I tend to keep books I really enjoy, which means, If i borrowed it from the library, I go to the bookstore and order my own copy. Sometimes, if I read a book that I acquaired somewhere else, I will take it to thelibrary and ask if they want their own copy, and then pay for one. I think I have a lot of books..
