Turning the Pages My eyes are always passing over some group of words. Books, magazines, web sites, papers, etc. It's all good.

Reading has a way of shaping and sharpening the mind that other forms of entertainment don't. I've learned plenty from TV, movies, and other media, but reading tends to be a far more active and engaging outlet. Or an inlet, if you will.

I favor fluid and provocative language. True, I am inclined toward the flowery poetry, but words don't have to be floral to be alluring. Ideas and knowledge are there to be found and shared (the latter is of particular importance), no matter what one is reading.

One of my favorite lyrics comes from "Books Are Burning," an XTC song that warns about and rebukes the oppression of free speech and expression. "I believe the printed word is more than sacred. / Beyond the gauge of good or bad. / The human right to let your soul fly free and naked. / Above the violence of the fearful and sad."
