H.P. Lovecraft

One of my favorite authors. Lovecraft lived during the late 1800s and early 1900s. He was an American author of weird fiction and cosmic horror, but he didn't actually write a book. His work consists of short stories, most of which correlate to each other in a series called the Cthulhu Mythos. The Mythos centers around the Great Old Ones, ancient powerful deities who came from outer space and once ruled the Earth. Lovecraft has a very unusual style with an impressive vocabulary, some of the words he uses are downright archaic. His writing can completely absorb you, he describes things almost poetically.

Some of my favorites are The Thing on the Doorstep, The Shadow over Innsmouth, The Dunwich Horror, The Call of Cthulhu, and The Dreams in the Witch House. Most of his work can be found online by googling "Lovecraft archive". There are several movies based on his work (though the stories are far better) and also a game called Call of Cthulhu.
